Working on a new blog and and Ebook

My Spring semester has started and although I am overwhelmed by school work, work and running a club, I am excited to try and start designing an Ebook from indesign. The project is for my Art 370 Interactive design class but will also be used for my Special Topics class as well. I am also going to try and update my website and my blogs so they are more up to date. Stay tuned for posts and links to my Ebook!

Don't ask for ideas and then not accept them

I'm writing tonight because I'm frustrated. At my job I am a page designer and we had a meeting the other night where we were asked not to break basic style book rules but we were also asked to try out new ideas with the page. I saw a fellow designer doing something interesting with photo placement so I decided to try the same thing, the ultimate design was overall interesting and kept the reader in the story. The editorial decision however did not like the idea, understandably it did break many of our style rules but I am mainly frustrated that we were asked by both editors as well as the adviser for my job to try new and interesting things, the adviser liked the design but ultimately the decision is left to the editors, but we were both shot down. Don't ask for new and interesting ideas if they are just going to be shot down and you're not even willing to try it once in print!! If it doesn't work then don't let it be printed again, but isn't that what we are supposed to be doing is trying new and innovative ways to create designs? Why not just see the reaction?

Life,School,Work

Been quite a while since I've done a post but here I am now :) Life has been pretty good thus far, just up to school and work at The Argonaut (school newspaper) and Bath and body works. It is now my senior year at the University and I am trying to start designing and writing stories for my magazine idea. Hopefully it starts to work out and that everything comes together pretty well. Also hope I don't get too overwhelmed with school I am taking Italian this year and that has been a good refresher since I took it in high school but at the same time, so much work. :( Well that's all I have for this post, wish me luck with the magazine!!! :)

I got to go to the WWE!!

So last Saturday, March 6 2010, I got to accomplish a dream....I got to go see WWE live!!! I know it is strange for a girl to enjoy wrestling but I do! And yes I do know that some, I repeat SOME of the things they do are fake but I enjoy the commentary and find them to be not only great actors but great athletes. The show was okay for the first couple of hours, kinda like how it is on tv, one is mainly just waiting for the main event....which was awesome by the way! I got to see Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Edge, and CM Punk in a fatal four way!! I loved every minute, I especially loved how my best friend Kelly Walk was willing to come with me and witness my lameness haha!!
But still, dream accomplished now all I have to do is go skydiving and see Wrestlemainia live :)

So I get upset sometimes.....

So sometimes when I find things irratating or something I feel is not right and I tend to blow up and vent to anyone and everyone about it. I find though that this is a good way to get over things and get over them quickly. So just to say sorry to anyone who I have blown up at in the past but I feel that if you let me vent for just a little while I will ultimately get over it or come to the conclusion that I was wrong or maybe even right, anyhow I will get over it. So if I ever blow up at you I am sorry but just let me get through it I will apologize later for my mistake.

Thank you :)

and the new Advertising Club President is......

So last night at the Advertising Club meeting, we were doing elections and I wanted to run for a position to gain more experience and build up my resume. Who would have thought that it would turn out that I would become the president!? Well to quickly explain when the club advisor was going through the officer positions, no one wanted to be president. He was going through those of us who are not graduating and no one really wanted to take it on. I thought to myself I bet I could do it, but still like there is even now, fear ran through me. What if I mess up, can do time management very well? I finally told myself to just shut up and grow a pair, and thats when I told the advisor I could do it, right then and there without even taking a vote people agreed! I was pretty excited and then overrun with fear again. Well I know I can do this and I will be good at it, I just have to get past the lurking fear of screwing up! :)

Way to go Kels!!!!

Here is a link to an editorial written by my editor. The Idaho Statesmen decided to comment on it on thier blog. I find it very interesting that the comments being made against this column might more than likely residents of Boise and are just upset that BSU has one of the lowest graduation rates (below 10%), but for those of us in the "real world" getting a higher education is important and should not be considered just another 'thing' that can get cut.
It could just be the liberal side of me but who knows :)
